Of the World

I was born in America. My blood comes from Italy, England, Ukraine, France, Germany, Poland, Russia, and Ireland. I have lived in America, England, and currently live in Ukraine. I have visited twenty countries and I am a global citizen.

Yes, I am an American citizen and love setting off fireworks on Fourth of July, but I also have loved stopping to watch sheepdogs control a flock on a hill while driving down the Ring of Kerry; dancing with locals on Costa Rican beaches; spending afternoons lazily walking around the Louvre; hopping on the back of a moped to go to Giovanni’s favorite sandwich shop in Naples; eating (and drinking) my way through six hour birthday dinners in Ukraine; playing baseball with Dominicans on a makeshift diamond with chickens running around; being taught by new friends in broken English how to properly drink a beer (in three large gulps) in a family restaurant in Prague.

I have been and always will be a proud American, but my experiences abroad have effected me and changed me just as much as my experiences in America. It is important to me that people of every country are exposed to different cultures because at the end of the day humankind is largely one great community. One of my life goals is to experience many different cultures and their traditions; currently I am working toward that goal in Ukraine. Talking to people from all parts of the world will help me be a better global citizen and I encourage all of you to take time to learn about different cultures from the people that truly know them.
